Taking care of your skin on a daily basis is incredibly important. Many of you may already have a skin care routine you follow every day. Whether you have a daily skin care routine or not, there is always room for improvement. Here are some skin care tips to make sure you are getting the most out of your skin care routine.
- Don’t under or over-cleanse
Keeping your face clean is a must, especially at night. Sure, we all know that leaving makeup on while you sleep can clog your pores but it goes further than that. Free radicals, the enemy of youth, swirl around us all day. They are attracted to our makeup and when we sleep with makeup on our skin gets unnecessary exposure to the free radicals in the environment. This causes the breakdown of healthy collagen which results in fine lines and other signs of premature aging. Washing your face once at night and once in the morning is the frequency recommended, depending on your skin type. If your skin is oily, washing twice a day may be necessary. Try a wash with microbeads to add a bit more muscle to your wash. Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Tamarind and Purifying Micro Pearls is my go to. Whereas if you have dry skin, you’ll only want to wash once a day to keep your skin from drying out. Try Clarins Gentle Foaming Cleanser with Shea Butterfor dry sensitive skin.
- Exfoliate gently 1–2 times a week
Dead cells rest on the surface of our skin suffocating healthy cells making skin appear dull. These dead cells also clog pores and worsen the appearance of wrinkles. Using a gentle scrub or peel, such as glycolic or salicylic acid will remove these dead cells from the surface of your skin, however, you don’t want to over do it or you could damage your healthy skin. Once or twice a week is plenty of exfoliation and will help keep your face clear and beautiful. If your skin is sensitive, stick to exfoliating once a week. GLYTONE Mini Peel Gel and NEOVA Serious Clarity Microderm Scrub get the job done for me.
- Use toner
Toner is often absent in many people’s skin care routines but don’t skip it because toner helps hydrate and balance skin. It nourishes it with vitamins and extracts as well as enhancing the absorption of your other skin care products. For best results, use toner daily after cleansing. I prefer Clarins PMG Tonique Lotion. It gives my skin a healthy even tone.
- Make sure your moisturizer is right for your skin type
Knowing your skin type is crucial in making sure your skin care routine is tailored to your skin’s needs. This is the case regarding how often you cleanse and exfoliate, and for what kind of moisturizer you use. If you are prone to dry skin, a rich moisturizer with natural oils like COSMEDIX Emulsion, Intense Hydrator for Perpetually Dry Skin with Shea Butter and Liquid Crystal Technology can help to nourish and moisturize your skin. If your skin is oily and acne-prone it’s best to use an oil-free moisturizer like TULA Probiotic Skin Care Hydrating Day and Night Cream, Anti Aging Facial Moisturizer with Turmeric Root Extract
- Use a moisturizer with anti-aging ingredients to save time
If you use a moisturizer that has anti-aging ingredients, you can spare yourself the need to use a separate anti-aging cream or serum. Always use a daily moisturizer with an SPF 30 or higher. There are some great options including MDSolarSciences Daily Anti-Aging Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Moisturizer, or NEAROS Anti Aging Firming Moisturizer Face Cream – Boost Collagen Level for Beautiful Skin. If you still need an anti-aging serum I recommend Elizabeth Arden PREVAGE Anti-Aging Daily Serum it works great! Or, Image Skincare Vital C Hydrating Anti-Aging Serum.
- Use an eye cream or serum
There are many reasons to use a specialized eye cream in place of your daily moisturizer or anti-aging products. For one, many moisturizers are too rich and heavy for the eye area and can make bags and wrinkles look worse. SkinMedica TNS Eye Repair has everything your eyes need to stay bright. Additionally, eye creams and serums are formulated with peptides like Eyeseryl, and other vitamins that are designed to treat specific eye issues like under-eye bags and dark circles. Try ELEMIS Absolute Eye Serum, Hydrating Eye Serum. I love it!
- Use skin protectant
This is possibly the most important step in a skin care routine. I can not stress enough how this one step can make or break our attempts at having healthy beautiful skin. I recommend always using sunscreen with an SPF 30 or higher and reapplying often, however, I use the words “skin protectant” because we need to worry about more than just the sun. When it comes to protecting our skin we have to also take into account those nasty free radicals in our environments. Did you know that the light coming of devices like our phones and laptops is also causing damage to our skin? Yup, it’s true and this leads to signs of premature aging just like other free radicals. Some of you may already know, my favorite skin protectant is Christian Dior One Essential City Defense Advanced Protection SPF 50. It is perfect alone or under makeup and it gives my skin a fresh look and never cakes up or looks greasy. I love it and I bet you will too.
I Am Not A Doctor
These are tips to keep skin looking great. However, there may be times when you need to consult an expert. A dermatologist, an esthetician or even a doctor. For example, I am allergic to one of my dogs during the rainy season. I wake up with puffy red eyes, swollen face and dry patches of skin from itching. I usually see a doctor for a steroid because it is intolerable and makes me appear hideous. My point is, these are just tips and should not be used in all situations. If you think you need to see a specialist about your skin issues then you should contact one as soon as possible.
I hope these skin care tips help you to look as beautiful on the outside as you are on the inside. Life is just better when we can face it with Healthy Beautiful Skin. xoxo
